A workshop on Amrita OLabs was held at United Theological College, Bengaluru on 14 July, 2016. The workshop was part of a four-day teachers training camp organized by Agastya International Foundation that was held at the same campus from 12 – 15 July, 2016. Thirty one science teachers from different schools across Karnataka participated in the workshop.
The session started with a brief introduction about AmritaCREATE given by Parvathy G.D, Senior Research Associate, AmritaCREATE. She explained the different projects designed and developed by the center and highlighted the significance and benefits of Amrita OLabs in the present day science curriculum. Chandrasekhar, AmritaCREATE team member explained in detail some of the experiments in OLabs such as ‘Saponification- The process of making soap’, and ‘Life cycle of a mosquito’.
The teachers curiously watched the demo session and were very much excited about the animation videos and simulation parts of OLabs. Afterwards, they cleared their doubts on the platform in which Online Labs works and the availability of the virtual experiments in rural areas.
At the end of the session, the participants filled out a feedback form that captured their opinion and comment on the project and training session. After the session, the CREATE team distributed CDs of OLabs to the participating teachers.
“It’s really a good job done by Amrita. Most of the students in our school come from rural areas. It is really difficult for us to make them understand the concept behind the topics. Therefore the CDs provided by the team will truly help us to make teaching science simple and entertaining,” remarked Komala D.P, Assistant Teacher, Govt. Girls High School, Alur.
